Primary Purpose
SPEARPOINT
Spearpoint blades offer a cutting edge on both sides and come to a sharp point at the tip.
This blade's primary function is to penetrate, or pierce.
We strongly recommend spear point if your primary task is self-defense or protection. The "dual" edge will more efficiently penetrate the task than any single edge blade; providing you far more ease and control of the tool as it pierces through layers. (such as leather, denim, etc.)
TANTO
The blade of a TANTO edge is one sided.
Towards the tip of the blade the edge slants at an angle to meet the spine of the blade at the tip.
Like the Spear Point; This blade is also effective for puncturing and piercing.
However, unlike the spear point; you can place your thumb on the spine of the tool, allowing more pressure and control of your cutting tasks.
Also, the slant or angle at the end of the blade allows the tool to do more of the cutting-pressure for you instead of you doing more of the work for the tool. This helps restrict or eliminate "work fatigue" in regard to your hand or grip when using your tool.
(We believe in the "tool" doing the work for you; not "you" doing the work for your tool).
We recommend TANTO as your EDC. (everyday carry). The TANTO excels first at cutting tasks, and comes in second for piercing and penetration.
However, if the tool's primary task is to hunt, skin, carve or whittle wood; you'll want to check out the Drop Point. The TANTO excels at cutting.. perhaps a bit too well.. if it is "precision" work you are seeking out of the tool then the TANTO may not be the appropriate tool for you.
DROP POINT
A drop point is a single edge blade that provides a rounded "belly-like" cutting edge.
Whereas the TANTO simply cuts through everything, the drop point's rounded belly provides more control when operating around crucial and precision work tolerances.
(you don't want to risk accidentally cutting into all the hard precision work you just carved into a piece of wood. Or if you hunt; you certainly do not want to risk piercing the urine sack ultimately spoiling the meat).
Note: Because the drop point has a "rounded" belly on the cutting edge, it will be opposite of the TANTO; YOU will do more of the work than the tool does.
If it is a precision task you seek your tool to provide, then we recommend the Drop Point.At TRENCHTEK, whether your needs are protection, everyday carry, or precision;
we strive to equip you (The Consumer) with the right tool for the right task.
We hope this helps.

WE'RE IN THE TRENCHES WITH YOU.
About Our Knives
At TRENCHTEK, all of our tools are full-auto, double action (D/A) out the front (OTF).
Placing pressure on the trigger mechanism forward deploys the blade from the body of the tool.
Placing pressure on the trigger mechanism backward retracts the blade into the body of the tool.
All of our tools are computer numerical control (CNC) machined high carbon 440c steel.
Properly heat treated 440c steel excels over most super steels in hardness, edge retention, and corrosion.
Handles and Trigger are Zinc Aluminum Alloy.
This combination is stronger than any grade of aluminum available, and is stronger than most carbide steel.
Zinc Aluminum Alloy corrodes 30 times slower than steel, making this an ideal choice for humid, wet, hot, and dry environments.
Every tool is equipped with a wide and tight-fitting stainless steel ambidextrous deep-carry pocket clip.
While a ceramic ball bearing excels at breaking glass, and not so well at bodily injury; we opted for a Tungsten Steel Carbide ball bearing on every one of our tools, to maximize the duel-purpose Bone breaker/ Glass breaker.
Our Trigger/Spring Pressure is 25 lbs, one of the strongest in the industry; this aids in the elimination of unwanted deployment.
If any object obstructs the tool during deployment it will cease to fully engage.
Although it is considered a "safety" feature in the OTF industry; nobody invented this, it is just an advantageous side effect of the mathematics of spring inertia... There is simply not enough power in any double action OTF ever made that will allow the tool to fully engage if an object obstructs the blade during deployment.
It is an effective safety.
To reset the blade, pull the blade forward until it hyperextends and locks into place.
Once our tool is deployed and engaged; it will only retract when you command it to.
At TRENCHTEK we test our tools, fully engaged, under a three and a half ton (7000 lbs) press.
That's the same weight as a full-dressed Ford F-250 pickup truck. (Insert pic of ford F250 here)
The results are that the blades will ultimately begin to bend, at which point it has proven that the gates that lock the blade in the open position; will not fail. (you would snap the blade steel before the gates would ever fail).
The best part is when we release the press; the memory in the blade steel straightens back out. We retract the blade back into the body of the tool and it is ready to be deployed and engaged at your command.
Ready and available for your next target or task.
All of our blades are heat treated for a high performance cutting edge.
Each blade is further outfitted with a two-tone finish; satin flats, and black titanium nitride (TiN) finished grinds.
This increases robustness and resistance to wear and tear, and supports both longer blade life, and provides a higher productivity rate. Our finish also hardens and protects both the cutting and sliding surfaces of the blade.
Once we receive and review our parts; Every tool's build is hand assembled in Mesa Arizona, and must pass OUR rigorous 12-point inspection before we crown it with our TRENCHTEK name, ensuring the end-user receives only the best.
At TRENCHTEK, all of our tools are work-rated, heavy duty, and hard-hitting.
Each tool is provided to you with a Lifetime Warranty.
